Web design and SEO in Cambridge, built on research
KOODOS is a research-led web design studio in Stansted Mountfitchet, half an hour down the M11 from Cambridge. Every project, from the city to Ely and St Neots, starts with a map of what your market actually searches for — not a template.
01 Research first, here too
Cambridge has more web designers per square mile than almost anywhere outside London, and most of them start with a look. I start with the market. Before anything is designed, GroundWork maps the search demand in your sector, where your competitors are thin, and which businesses the AI answer engines already cite when someone in Cambridge asks the question you want to be the answer to.
That matters here more than most places. Cambridge searches are split between a city with a very particular economy — the university, the science parks, the firms that serve them — and the market towns and villages around it, where “plumber in Sawston” or “accountant St Ives” is decided by a handful of thin pages. The GroundWork shows which of those you can take, and what the page has to say to take it.
The rest follows the same three stages as every KOODOS project: the research, the website built against it, and — if you want it — the ongoing coverage that keeps it visible. Being close changes how we meet, not what you get.

03 Where I work
Based in Stansted Mountfitchet, at the Essex end of the M11. Cambridge is a straight run up the motorway — about thirty minutes to the city, a little more to Ely, St Ives or St Neots — for the one session that needs to be in person. Everything after that runs on calls and a shared portal, so where you are in Cambridgeshire makes very little difference.

04 Working locally
Why a studio down the M11, when Cambridge has so many?
Because most of them are built for the science parks and priced accordingly, and a small business in Cambridge gets the junior team and the template. I work with the businesses the big agencies do not: the practice, the trade, the shop, the consultancy of three. The process is the same one I would use for a funded start-up on the Biomedical Campus — the research first, then the build — at a price set by the work, not the postcode. And Cambridge is thirty minutes from my door, so the early research conversations can happen at your premises, at mine in Stansted, or at a table somewhere off the M11.
What you own at the end
The site is built on a platform you own, with your own accounts and your own domain. If you ever stop working with me, everything stays with you. That is true for every KOODOS client; it is written here because Cambridge has a lot of agencies that would rather host, licence and retain. Rented Ground explains what you actually own when you own a website.
05 Questions
Working with KOODOS in Cambridge
- Do you only work with businesses in Cambridge?
- No. KOODOS works with small businesses across the UK, and the process is identical wherever you are. Being half an hour down the M11 means I can meet you in person and I know the local search picture, which helps when the city or town term is part of what you want to rank for.
- How much does a website cost in Cambridge?
- The same as anywhere: GroundWork is £250, a Build starts from £550 and Coverage from £150 a month. The price is set by the work, not the postcode. The GroundWork tells you what the site needs before anything is quoted, so the build price is based on scope, not guesswork.
- Can you help me rank for local searches in my sector?
- Yes — that is what GroundWork is for. It maps which local terms in your sector have real demand, how strong the pages currently ranking are, and whether the Cambridge term or the town term is the winnable one. The Build then gives each target its own page, and Coverage keeps it moving.
- Do you meet clients in person?
- Yes. I am based in Stansted Mountfitchet and will travel anywhere in Cambridgeshire, or meet you at mine. Most projects need a single in-person session at the start, for the research conversations, and then run over calls and a shared project portal where you can see where things stand.
-
Meetings are booked through open calendar slots: pick a time that suits you and say whether you would rather meet in person or on a call.
- Are you one of the SEO companies in Cambridge?
- I am a research-led web designer rather than a traditional SEO company, but search visibility is central to what I do. GroundWork is the technical and market audit, Build puts the pages in place, and Coverage is the ongoing AI SEO work that keeps you visible in both Google and the AI answer engines. If you want an SEO company in Cambridge that starts from the market rather than a keyword list, that is the job.
- Do you build on Webflow, WordPress or something else?
- Whichever platform suits the job, as long as you own it. GroundWork settles that before the build is quoted. I work in Astro, Next.js, Webflow and Sanity, and the deciding factors are what you need to edit yourself, how fast the site has to be, and what it costs to run. I stay away from WordPress: for an SME serious about growth it is usually a time sink and not the right tool for the job.
