Build — the website

A website redesign that starts with why the old one is not working

Most redesigns are a new template on the same problems. Mine treats website redesign and SEO as one job: scoped against the GroundWork — what your market searches for, where competitors are thin, and what the site has to do — then built fast, accessible and yours.

01What you get

Everything is in your name: the domain, the hosting, the content and the code. If you ever want to leave, you can take it all with you. Rented Ground explains why that matters more than most people expect.

The build plan is written from the Demand Map. See a sample Demand Map to see what a build starts from.

02How a build runs

Every client gets a portal that shows exactly this: the stage the work is in, what each stage hands over, and what is shared so far. This is what it looks like part-way through.

03Website redesign pricing

Page one of Google for "website redesign UK" is a row of prices. None of them starts with research.

The Market

£149–£995

the price range offered by the redesign providers on page one of Google UK. A new template on the same structure, delivered in days.

Koodos

From £550

a KOODOS build, in staged payments, scoped against the GroundWork. The research is £250 on top, and half of it credits back.

Platform Care

£25–£50/mo

Platform Care from launch: hosting, monitoring and priority fixes for the site I built. Mandatory, because a site nobody watches decays.

04Which platform?

Whichever suits the job. My default is a fast, code-based site with a proper editing interface — currently Astro with Sanity — because it loads quickly, structures content the way search and AI engines want it, and belongs entirely to you. Webflow or WordPress are used where there is a good reason, such as a team that needs to edit visually or an existing investment worth keeping.

What does not change is ownership. Domain, content, code and accounts are yours from day one, whichever platform is chosen.

05Moving platform without losing your rankings

A redesign that changes URLs, platform or structure is a website migration, and migrations are where rankings get lost. Every KOODOS build includes the SEO migration work: the old URLs mapped to the new ones, redirects in place before launch, structured data carried across, and Search Console watched for the weeks after so any drop is caught early.

If you are moving off Wix, Squarespace, Webflow or WordPress, the Demand Map shows which existing pages earn traffic and must be preserved, and which can be retired. Nothing that ranks is dropped by accident.

06Two ways in

A build needs a Demand Map behind it. Most people arrive without one; some already have research worth using.

Start with GroundWork

£250, three or four working days. It produces the Demand Map the build plan is written from, and 50% credits against a build started within 60 days.

Have it reviewed

If you have recent keyword and competitor research, I review it instead of repeating it. If it covers what a Demand Map covers, the build plan starts from there.

07Questions

Build questions

How much does a website redesign cost?
A KOODOS build starts at £550, paid in stages, plus £250 for the GroundWork research (half of which credits back). The scope in the build plan sets the final figure, so you see the price before design starts. Platform Care after launch is £25–£50 a month.
Do I have to do GroundWork first?
A build needs a Demand Map behind it, so yes — either mine, or existing research of yours that I review and find adequate. It is the difference between a redesign and a reskin.
Can you redesign my Wix, Squarespace or WordPress site?
Yes. Sometimes the answer is to rebuild on the same platform and sometimes it is to move; the GroundWork and the build plan make that call on evidence. Either way, the content and domain come with you.
How long does a redesign take?
It depends on the scope and what the Demand Map recommends. A small site typically takes one to two weeks from an agreed build plan. A multi-page site with collections — case studies, products, articles or service areas — runs five to eight weeks. You have a preview link within the first week either way.
What is Platform Care?
Hosting, uptime and error monitoring, dependency updates and priority fixes for a site I built — £25 to £50 a month depending on the site. It starts at launch and is not optional, because an unwatched site decays and the research investment goes with it.
Do you build new sites as well as redesigns?
Yes. The process is identical; a new site simply has no existing pages to audit. The homepage describes the offer for a first website.
