Web design and SEO in Hertfordshire, built on research

KOODOS is a research-led web design studio in Stansted Mountfitchet, minutes from the Hertfordshire border. Every project, from Bishop's Stortford to Watford, starts with a map of what your market actually searches for — not a template.

01 Research first, here too

Most web designers in Hertfordshire start with a look. I start with the market. Before anything is designed, GroundWork maps the search demand in your sector, where your competitors are thin, and which businesses the AI answer engines already cite when someone nearby asks the question you want to be the answer to.

That matters more locally than it sounds. Searches like “accountant in St Albans” or “roofer near Hertford” are decided by a handful of pages, and most of them are thin. The GroundWork shows you which ones, and what a page has to say to take the position.

The rest follows the same three stages as every KOODOS project: the research, the website built against it, and — if you want it — the ongoing coverage that keeps it visible. Being local changes how we meet, not what you get.

03 Where I work

Based in Stansted Mountfitchet, a few minutes from the Hertfordshire border and the M11. Bishop's Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and Hertford are a short drive, and the west of the county is a straightforward run for the one session that needs to be in person. Everything after that runs on calls and a shared portal, so where you are in Hertfordshire makes very little difference.

04 Working locally

Why a local studio, if the process is the same?

Three practical reasons. We can meet in person — at your premises, at mine in Stansted, or somewhere off the M11, the A1(M) or the M25 in between — which makes the early research conversations faster and more honest. I know the local search picture: which sectors in Hertfordshire are crowded, which are barely contested, where the county-level term is winnable and where you need the town. And when something needs a photograph, a visit or a second pair of eyes on a shop floor, it is a drive, not a project.

What you own at the end

The site is built on a platform you own, with your own accounts and your own domain. If you ever stop working with me, everything stays with you. That is true for every KOODOS client; it is written here because a lot of small businesses in Hertfordshire have been caught by the other arrangement. Rented Ground explains what you actually own when you own a website.

05 Questions

Working with KOODOS in Hertfordshire

Do you only work with businesses in Hertfordshire?
No. KOODOS works with small businesses across the UK, and the process is identical wherever you are. Being on the Hertfordshire border means I can meet you in person and I know the local search picture, which helps when the town or county term is part of what you want to rank for.
How much does a website cost in Hertfordshire?
The same as anywhere: GroundWork is £250, a Build starts from £550 and Coverage from £150 a month. The price is set by the work, not the postcode. The GroundWork tells you what the site needs before anything is quoted, so the build price is based on scope, not guesswork.
Can you help me rank for local searches in my sector?
Yes — that is what GroundWork is for. It maps which local terms in your sector have real demand, how strong the pages currently ranking are, and whether the county term or the town term is the winnable one. The Build then gives each target its own page, and Coverage keeps it moving.
Do you meet clients in person?
Yes. I am based in Stansted Mountfitchet and will travel anywhere in Hertfordshire, or meet you at mine. Most projects need a single in-person session at the start, for the research conversations, and then run over calls and a shared project portal where you can see where things stand.

Meetings are booked through open calendar slots: pick a time that suits you and say whether you would rather meet in person or on a call.

Are you an SEO agency in Hertfordshire?
I am a research-led web designer rather than a traditional SEO agency, but search visibility is central to what I do. GroundWork is the technical and market audit, Build puts the pages in place, and Coverage is the ongoing AI SEO work that keeps you visible in both Google and the AI answer engines. If you want an agency that starts from the market rather than a keyword list, that is the job.
Do you build on Webflow, WordPress or something else?
Whichever platform suits the job, as long as you own it. GroundWork settles that before the build is quoted. I work in Astro, Next.js, Webflow and Sanity, and the deciding factors are what you need to edit yourself, how fast the site has to be, and what it costs to run. I stay away from WordPress: for an SME serious about growth it is usually a time sink and not the right tool for the job.
